BLENHEIM, Ontario (April 9, 2014) – RM Auctions, the world’s largest auction house for investment-quality automobiles, returns to Michigan, July 26, to celebrate 20 years of record-setting auctions in the Detroit area.
A longstanding summer tradition for collectors, the company’s firmly rooted Michigan sale – formerly known as the Meadow Brook and St. John’s auction – has carved a reputation over the past two decades as one of the leading events honouring the American automobile. To mark its 20th anniversary, the event has been renamed this year to ‘Motor City’ – a tribute to the area’s strong automotive heritage and continued innovation in the field.
“With its rich automotive history and culture, the Detroit area provides a terrific backdrop for some of the country’s leading automotive events,” says Mike Fairbairn, co-founder and specialist, RM Auctions. “We’re thrilled to be returning in July to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our sale. The new name not only signals the event’s important location, but celebrates the renaissance of Detroit as the ‘Motor City’, America’s hot bed of automotive design, engineering and excitement.”
To coincide with the new ‘Motor City’ title, RM will inject a fresh new energy into this year’s auction, as reflected in both the offering and presentation. In total, more than 70 automobiles, handpicked for their styling, design and engineering, are expected to cross the podium during the single-day sale.
“Motor City is a fantastic venue to present the full spectrum of American motoring history, from the dawn of the automobile to the muscle car and beyond,” adds Fairbairn. “At the same time, the event also boasts a strong track record for European classics, so collectors can also expect a great offering of the best from across the Pond.”
As per past years, the RM sale will again act as a prelude to the Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s to make for a larger celebration of the hobby. Under the leadership of Larry Moss, the new chairman and head of the Board of Directors of the event, the concours is also set to display an exciting new energy, as illustrated by an expanded schedule of events. Official festivities kick off with the Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Celebration, hosted by RM Auctions on July 24, followed by a diverse mix of tours, displays and seminars, before culminating with the 36th annual Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s on Sunday, July 27.
“We’re proud to be returning as the longest running sponsor of the Concours weekend,” comments Alain Squindo, Vice President of RM Auctions. “The event is a wonderful illustration of the passion that drives the hobby, and we’re excited to be working with Larry Moss and his team to ensure it continues as a great summer tradition.”
Moss adds, “It is my goal to make sure that this year’s Concours d’Elegance is the best ever. To that end we are connecting with collectors around the world to bring some of the most memorable automobiles ever seen to the beautiful fairways of St. John’s.”
RM’s Motor City auction and the Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s will be held at the historic Inn at St. John’s, 44045 Five Mile Road, Plymouth, Michigan.
