85 bhp, 221 cu. in. flathead V-8 engine, two-barrel carburetor, three-speed manual transmission, solid front axle with transverse leaf spring, ¾-floating rear axle with transverse leaf spring, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 112 in.

When purchasing an antique car that has been restored, “who” performed the restoration is an important factor to consider. The restorer should be an expert in the model, intensely knowledgeable in regards to the accuracy of fit, finishes, and trim, and they must be able to return the car to exactly as it was when it left the factory, or better.

This Dartmouth Green 1939 Ford DeLuxe Convertible was restored by Jack Smith, assisted by Wayne Moore, and like its companion, the 1939 DeLuxe Coupe also offered at this sale, was restored to the highest possible standards. The expectation was that the rumble seat ragtop would be a 1,000-point show car, capable of winning another AACA Grand National Award, just as the Coupe had accomplished.

The car was in the right hands, as Mr. Moore had previously restored several 100-point 1939 and 1940 Fords for Benny “Mr. Ford” Boodle, the late past president of the Antique Automobile Club of America, known for the numerous truly outstanding and accurate Ford restorations that he brought to AACA meets over the years. Accordingly, the work performed on this fine Ford was absolutely “second to none,” with no expenses spared, to make the convertible the best that it could possibly be in every detail.

Beautifully finished to those exacting standards, this is as “concours-ready” as a 1939 Ford Convertible can be, and having not been shown and driven only test miles since its restoration, it is still a completely fresh car that is ready to present to judges. With its sporting color choice, elegantly complemented by brown leather, a tan cloth top, and wide whitewall tires, it is extremely eye-catching, even among a field of other Fords. Its offering here provides a special opportunity to buy a newly restored and exquisitely finished example of one of the Blue Oval’s sportiest designs, from one of its finest years.
