Commencing with the 1962 models, the 500/XL series became a sport version of the Galaxie rather than just a trim level designation. For 1963, the Galaxie 500/XL promoted as, “The car that matches Thunderbird’s beauty and power…” with console mounted shift selector and bucket seats was available only as a two-door hardtop, four-door hardtop, or convertible and was fully restyled with new grill as well trim. Additional equipment includes carpet trimmed door panels, reverse lamps, two-tone interior trim, special badging, chrome window trim, padded arm rests, wire wheel covers, wide whitewalls, nylon carpet throughout and reading lamps.
