The Starfire as an independent line rather than a trim level designation debuted in 1961 as a convertible only, sub-model of the Oldsmobile Super 88 series. As the flagship of the Oldsmobile line, the Starfire featured every available option as standard equipment. This includes power bucket seat upholstered in leather, console, power windows, brakes, steering, antenna, and trunk release, console mounted tachometer, Hydra-matic transmission, 394-cid V-8 engine with 10.25:1 compression that produced 330-hp and 440 lbs/ft torque and limited slip differential. Unique to the Starfire are the brushed aluminum side panel, chrome plated valve covers, oil filler cap and air cleaner.
