Harrington Group, the manufacturer of luxury half-scale Junior Cars, built this exquisite Ferrari 250 California Spider ‘Junior’ car to allow youth (and sometimes adults!) the experience behind of the wheel of one of Italy’s most glamourous open sports cars. This example is fitted with the 110 cc air-cooled, front mounted, four-stroke, single cylinder petrol engine. Its rear wheel-drive propels it to an exhilarating top speed of 30 mph at 8,500 rpm and it is mated with a seamless three-speed semi-automatic transmission that does not require a clutch for sequential gear changing. The steering position is in the center of the car, while fully independent suspension all around make cornering very enjoyable and vented Brembo disk brakes ensure stopping is precise and safe. The throttle on this example is located on the right-side pedal and the brakes on the left-side, both pedals can be adjusted for varying heights and sizes of the driver. Conveniently, it also comes with a reverse gear, working lights, a horn, electric key starter and even functioning indicator lights.

The car is built upon a steel box section chassis and fitted with a composite body and floor which was painted and powder coated. It is finely trimmed with a full dashboard that contains the horn, ignition key, indicators and lights. There are even neatly positioned levers which release the hood and boot lid which are located within the cockpit of the car. It is roughly half-scale with measurements that are approximately 100 inches in length, 38.5 inches in width by 30.7 inches in height. The total dry weight for this car is 485 lbs. It comes complete with a battery tender, a car cover as well as a spare rear wheel in the boot and wheel cover.

Built to special order for the consignor in March 2019 and delivered later that year, it is painted Mercedes-Benz Midnight Blue and has been fitted with an upgraded red leather interior, seat belt, floor mats, Borrani-style wheels developed specifically for the consignor, and a speed restrictor.

Upon a recent test-drive of this car, an RM Sotheby’s specialist noted it performed flawlessly. It cold started straight away; all gears worked seamlessly including the reverse gear. The brakes were noted as being strong, while the steering was precise and fast cornering was met with large smiles on the other side. This car immediately puts a grin on the face of any adult who dares to jump in the cockpit and certainly is an absolute joy for any youth driver looking to enter the world of classic cars.
