  • One of 2,280 examples of the 512 TR made by Ferrari
  • Certified by Ferrari Classiche in June 2013
  • Delivered new to Switzerland in May 1992; imported into the U.K. in 2019
  • Odometer reads only 17,899 km at the time of cataloguing

First unveiled in 1991, the 512 TR was revealed by Ferrari as an evolution of the outgoing and widely popular Testarossa. The newer model retained much of its predecessor’s styling cues, yet its Pininfarina-designed bodywork flowed in sculpted curves that softened the sharp edges of the Testarossa’s recognisable wedge shape. Beneath the outer shell of the 512 TR, further changes included a one-piece rear subframe—allowing its engine to sit an inch lower than in the Testarosssa—further to enhanced suspension geometry. The interior was redesigned to increase comfort and ergonomics, while the exterior facelift was carried out to improve aerodynamics.

A new engine management system from Bosch raised power to 428 brake horsepower, and larger intake valves with a revised exhaust allowed Ferrari’s newest sports car to compete on a level playing field with its rivals, notably the Lamborghini Diablo. The 4.9-litre flat-12 engine gave the 512 TR factory-claimed performance stats of a 313.8 km/h top speed, storming to 100 km/h from a standstill in only 4.8 seconds.

This particular example was first delivered to Switzerland and was registered for the road on 11 May 1992, with its first owner residing in Anières, near Geneva. The car underwent its complimentary 1,000 km service at IFS Importation Ferrari in Nyon in July 1993, then in December 1997 was subject to an annual service at Garage de l’Athénée, Geneva. At the same workshop, the car returned in February 2000 for its 10,000 km service, at which point the odometer read only 8,340 km.

In 2012 the Ferrari was acquired by Carugati Automobiles, where it underwent a 20,000 km service in January 2013 when the odometer read 13,220 km. In June 2013, the 512 TR gained Ferrari Classiche certification. In November 2013, the Ferrari was serviced by Charles Pozzi of Paris, and soon after the 512 TR was taken to London for storage. The car was registered in the U.K. in September 2019, and shortly after it was taken to Joe Macari for a service that included a cam belt change. The car passed its most recent MoT in February 2022, at which point the odometer reading was recorded at 17,896 km. The Ferrari is offered for sale with a car cover, and toolkit, and at the time of cataloguing, the odometer reads 17,899 km.

The classic angular shape combined with the attractive design lines of the 512 TR is unmistakable and the model presents an enticing path into modern Ferrari ownership. With its low odometer reading and classic colour combination of red over a light leather interior, this example will surely appeal to enthusiasts.
