Immensely proud of its storied history, Ford Motor Company created the Ford GT to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary. It appeared during a wave of both fresh thinking and retro-inspired design that saw several nameplates reappear in their product line. The GT40 concept was shown at the North American International Auto Show in 2002, debuting with a look and a name that paid tribute to the company’s legendary Le Mans-winning GT40 of four decades prior.

By the end of 2004, actual production had begun on this mid-engined, 43-inch-tall supercar, which was by then simply called the GT. Production of each Ford GT involved multiple facilities, with each car starting life in Ohio and being completed at Ford’s own SVT facility in Michigan. At its heart was Ford’s all-aluminum 5.4-liter V-8 equipped with a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger, capable of producing 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. A top speed of 205 mph and a 0–60 sprint of 3.3 seconds elevated the GT into the same echelon as other period supercars such as the Porsche Carrera GT and the Mercedes-McLaren SLR. Just over 4,000 cars were built from 2004 to 2006, with 2,022 being completed for the 2005 model year.

A ROCK STAR’S GT

An instant American icon upon its debut, this Ford GT counts another American icon—musician Kid Rock—as its sole owner from new. A very early production example completed in August 2004, this Ford GT left the factory finished in Mark IV Red with full stripes; it was one of 669 finished as such for the 2005 model year. It was desirably equipped with all four factory-offered options, which encompassed painted racing stripes, forged aluminum BBS wheels, red-painted brake calipers, and, fittingly, the upgraded McIntosh stereo system and subwoofer.

Since Kid Rock took delivery of the GT, it has accumulated a modest 3,096 miles from new at time of cataloguing, and it has benefitted from careful upkeep over the years. Underscoring the musician’s special connection to this car, it accompanied by a Ford GT poster signed by celebrated designer Camilo Pardo and inscribed with, “To my buddy Kid Rock ‘One for the road.’” Additional accompanying items include its manuals in pouch and air compressor—and, to round out the already spectacular offering, a special guitar autographed by Kid Rock.

With its stunning retro-inspired design and breathtaking power, the Ford GT has been a highly sought-after model since its release. This four-option, Mark IV Red example’s low mileage, excellent condition, and truly one-of-a-kind ownership history make it an opportunity not to be missed.
