95 hp, 239 cu. in. V-8 engine, three-speed manual transmission, Columbia two-speed rear axle, live axle suspension with front and rear transverse leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 116 in.

This 1939 Mercury Convertible Coupe is an excellent example from the first year of production and has been noted as one of Mr. Thomas’ favorite cars. It continues to benefit from a correct, older, high-point cosmetic restoration and displays lovely patina. A black cloth convertible top with maroon piping, matching boot, and tasteful bright trim complement the Dove Gray exterior finish. Meanwhile, Ford script glass, chrome-plated bumper guards, a windshield-mounted radio antenna, and rear Duolamp signal lamps round out the exterior features. The car rides on a set of Firestone wide whitewall radial tires mounted on body color artillery wheels with polished “Mercury 8” hubcaps and trim rings. The handsome and inviting interior is trimmed in burgundy leather upholstery and features a rubber floor mat, a bronze painted dash, a large two-spoke steering wheel, stunning Art Deco-inspired instrumentation, and attractive brightwork. All this, plus the very correct engine compartment, make it very obvious why this Mercury has always been a favored car in the collection.
