For many, the 1934 model year Packard, referred to by the factory and connoisseurs alike as the Eleventh Series, represent the most attractive and desirable of the company’s pre-war efforts. They were the final models with traditional open fenders, albeit gently skirted, and the upright “tombstone” radiator shell for which the company had become well known. In addition, the chassis’ adjustable Ride Control suspension and Bijur automatic lubrication produced a car that was a dream to drive. Packard, the preeminent American luxury car marque, introduced the Eleventh Series cars on 21 August 1933 for the 1934 model year and they remained in production through the following August.

Offered here is one such desirable Eleventh Series 2/4-passenger coupe, finished in attractive medium blue accented with contrasting light blue pinstriping. The interior is upholstered in grey broadcloth which is nicely offset by extensive chrome, wood garnish interior trim moldings, and a stunning Art Deco style dash panel. Powered by a 320-cu. in. straight eight-cylinder engine mated to a three-speed manual transmission, this is a truly superb example.

This 1934 Packard has been treated to a frame-off restoration, a project which began some years before being acquired by the consignor. Upon inspection, which included removal of the oil pan and cylinder head, the consignor determined that the engine had been rebuilt at some point in the past. The straight eight had excellent oil pressure and needed only minor valve work to be put into fine fettle for touring. The car was stripped to bare metal before repainting, ensuring a long lasting and high-quality finish. Extensive re-chroming, fresh wood graining on the dash and interior trim, new porcelain coating on the manifolds, and a new wiring harness completed the work. It is reported to be an excellent driving car which offers the smooth torque, powerful acceleration, and luxurious comfort for which Packard was known both in the period and today.

Widely considered among the most beautiful and purely enjoyable of all Classic Era production automobiles, this Full Classic Packard Eight is worthy of serious consideration and would make an excellent example to drive, show, and enjoy, be it on a CARavan or casual weekend trip to the golf course. Beautifully presented and very attractive, it would be a welcome invite many vintage concours and CCCA events.
