An original black big-block/four-speed coupe, this 1969 Corvette began its lengthy racing career in 1972 when it was purchased by Randy Wittine, a future member of the Corvette Hall of Fame, who added FIA-style fender flares, an L-88 hood and Minilite wheels acquired from Tony De Lorenzo. Wittine campaigned it during 1972, and in late 1973 Dr. Richard (“Doc”) Bostyan bought it, installed a ZL-1 engine and prepped it for SCCA A-Production racing.

“Doc” successfully contested the second half of the 1974 season, taking the SE Division A-Production Championship and later blowing the engine at the SCCA runoffs. IMSA Camel GT races followed in 1975, and at the 1976 IMSA Sebring 12 Hours, “Doc” co-drove with Don Yenko and Jerry Thompson, qualifying seventh. First-lap, off-track excursions by John Greenwood's Corvette and David Hobbs’ BMW handed the Corvette the lead with stunned ABC commentator Chris Economaki spotlighting this unknown, low-budget but race-leading team. That year, “Doc” won the Bilstein SCCA National race at Palm Springs.

Other races included the 1977 12 Hours of Sebring and Paul Revere 250 at Daytona, the 1978 24 Hours of Daytona and again the Sebring 12 hours, where Yenko blew the engine, which he replaced with a new unit from Bill King Racing Engines, the engine supplier to the Owens-Corning team, which remains with the car today. The wide-body flares and red repaint are circa 1980-1981.

Idle since 1982, the Corvette was acquired by Chris Thompson in 2009 and returned to the track at Daytona that year. Cleaned and prepped for vintage racing in 2010, it features a new ATL fuel bladder, a rebuilt carb, new Holley fuel pumps, rebuilt brake calipers, all fluids changed and a re-cored radiator. Complete with extensive history including photos, listed in the Registry of Corvette Racing Cars and ready to go, it is a significant part of Corvette racing history.
