Truly one of BMWs most groundbreaking cars in a generation, the production-ready i8 was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show following years of concept cars in various shapes and forms. Intended as a flagship sports car debuting hybrid technology, the car was fitted with a 15.-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine mated to an electric engine, bringing a combined 357 bhp. The i8 was able to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, leading to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. With butterfly doors, four seats, and the ability to be driven by electricity alone for up to 37 km, the i8 truly was like nothing else on the road.

Previously owned by the late Argentinian football player Diego Maradona, this BMW i8 was built to Middle Eastern specifications and used by him whilst he was living and working in Dubai. Finished in Crystal White Pearl paintwork over Ivory White Leather, it is fitted with 20-inch ‘W-spoke’, seat belts in BMW “i Blue”, park distance control, convenience telephone, and a Harman Kardon stereo system amongst other options. The consignor acquired the car directly from Maradona in November 2018 and today the car has been driven just under 10,500 km from new. Serviced regularly throughout its life, the i8s last service was carried out in January of this year and has been driven less than 200 km since.

The i8 proved to be a worthy halo car to BMW and quite successful, selling over 20,000 units by the time production concluded in 2020, making it the world’s top selling plug-in hybrid sports car. Boasting previous ownership by one of the football world’s greatest star and a recent service, this i8 is ready for continued enjoyment with its third owner.
