RM Sotheby’s 21st annual Arizona collector car auction marks a successful start to the 2020 calendar with 90 percent of all lots sold and $30.4 million in total sales.

RM Sotheby’s 21st annual Arizona collector car auction kicked off the 2020 auction season by bringing together some of the best-in-category cars from across the market to the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, where bidders from 26 countries around the world filled the room. Thursday and Friday’s previews were met with enthusiasm and drew heavy foot traffic, which led to a 90 percent sell-through rate and $30.4 million in total sales.

Leading the top sales was a stunning 2018 Pagani Huayra Roadster, the 42nd of only 100 examples produced and showing fewer than 200 miles, at a final $2,370,000. Strong interest in exceptional examples of low-mileage supercars included a silver-metallic-over-bright-silver 2008 Bugatti Veyron 16.4, which reached a final $1,105,000, a Riviera Blue 2017 Ford GT offered without reserve, which achieved $923,000, and a black-over-dark-grey example of the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT originally owned by Antoine “Tony” Kanaan, which sold for $786,000.

A beautifully restored, Classiche-certified 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS reached a final $1,710,000 and a Rosso Corsa 1971 Lamborghini Muria P400 SV offered from 40 years of single ownership in a private collection brought $1,391,000. Also offered from the 18-car private collection, a 1991 Vector W8 Twin Turbo sold for $720,000 and set a new record for the marque, while a 2002 Dodge Viper GTS ACR Final Edition drew tremendous interest with numerous bidders on the phones and in the room and sold above its high estimate at $114,800.

Emerging from five decades of private Nebraskan ownership and long thought to be lost, a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Coupe wearing coachwork by Hebmüller sold for a final $995,000. Rare and desirable examples of the marque proved to be in high demand, with an excellent example of the iconic 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing retaining its matching-numbers engine and gearbox selling for $1,270,000 and a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster finished in its original color of Strawberry Metallic bringing $973,000.
