Despite the brief and unusual bout of rain experienced at RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba sale, the zeal for multiple vintage race cars with outstanding provenance and incredible low-production-number sport touring cars went unabated. Two former racing cars with well-documented race history stole the show, both selling for well over 3 million euros. The particularly rare and sought-after Aston Martin Short Chassis Volante garnered significant interest and sold for an impressive €1.805.000. A stunning Zagato-bodied 1955 Fiat 8V Coupé sold for over 1.7 million euros, one of nine lots offered during the sale with Zagato coachwork. The elegant Bugatti Type 50 Roadster, one of only two remaining examples with coachwork designed by Jean Bugatti, achieved a final sale of €1.411.250.
In total, RM Sotheby’s achieved nearly €20 million in gross sales and proved that quality automobiles with significant provenance, low production numbers, and timeless appeal will continue to command a premium in the collector car market.
