428-cid, 335-hp OHV V-8 engine, three-speed C-6 automatic transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and front-disc, rear-drum power hydraulic brakes. Wheelbase: 108-inches

Ford adopted significant changes for the 1969 Mustang. Although retaining the 108-inch wheelbase, it become longer, lower and wider, with revised sheetmetal throughout. The A.O. Smith-built Shelbys now had fiberglass front clips, giving a distinctive Shelby look. The nose extended into a thin wraparound chrome bumper that completely enclosed a recessed grille. Rectangular Lucas driving lights were located below the bumper, with headlamps at the grille extremity.

GT 350 Shelbys got a new 351-cid Windsor engine rated at 290-hp. The GT 500’s 428-cid Cobra Jet engine was continued, now rated at 335-hp, and a cast-iron intake manifold was fitted with a 735-cfm Holley quad. Ram-Air induction was standard. Transmission choices included the C-6 automatic and both wide- and close-ratio versions of Ford’s top-loader four-speed manual. Emission controls, however, were beginning to take their toll on the performance car industry, and engines were being strangled with an ever-increasing array of hoses, valves and air pumps.

Ordered through Gotham Ford in New York City, this 1969 GT 500 came equipped with SelectAire air conditioning and C-6 automatic transmission. Other features include power steering, power brakes, AM/FM radio, console gauges and windshield washers.

All body contours and paint are excellent, and the doors shut well and have even gaps. All brightwork is very good, as is the black vinyl interior, which includes the optional fold-down rear seat and center console.

The engine compartment is clean and correctly detailed, including proper hoses and hardware. It has desirable Cobra Jet Ram Air hood and air cleaner setup. Underneath, all is very clean and painted in matte black.

The car comes with copies of the original invoice, Shelby American order sheet and a day report for cars scheduled for this New York dealer. An album of the restoration is also included. An icon of the end of the first Shelby era at Ford, this Shelby GT 500 is one of but 1,534 sportsroofs in the 1969 model year.
