135-hp, 303.7-cid OHV V-8 engine, four-speed Hydra-Matic transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 119.5-inches

There are many contenders for the title of “First American Muscle Car.” Surely the Oldsmobile 88 must be among them. Combining GM’s light A-body with the powerful new Rocket overhead-valve V-8 engine, the new-for-1949 Series 88 was a big hit, the best-selling model with 99,276 built.

This 1950 model, a close-coupled Deluxe Club Coupe, was the recipient of a frame-off restoration by Arkansas Restored Kars of Hot Springs. All mechanical systems were rebuilt, chrome replated and a complete new interior in gray cloth installed. It harmonizes nicely with blue floor carpets. The meticulous work included replacement of all glass, door and trunk seals, and window felts. The car was converted to 12 volts during the restoration.

Equipped with tinted windshield, dual mirror spotlights, windshield washers, fender skirts, an AM radio and a day-night inside mirror; the car presents very well in medium blue. The engine compartment and undercarriage are nicely detailed, and considerable care has been taken to use period wiring materials. One of the less common 1950 body styles, this Deluxe Club Coupe is pretty, powerful and pleasing.
