318-cid, 230-hp OHV V-8 engine, three-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission, torsion bar independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel power hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 119-inches

Although officially a “full-size” Dodge, the Polara had been somewhat upstaged in 1962 by a Custom 880 model. Based on the Chrysler Newport, the 880 was basically a surrogate for the discontinued DeSoto. The nearly 65,000 Polaras built in 1964, however, vastly outsold the more expensive 880 and were only slightly overshadowed by the less expensive 330 and compact Dart models.

The color of this 1964 Polara convertible is called simply “Red.” No other qualifier is needed. A matching pleated vinyl interior compliments it nicely, contrasting with the white vinyl top, which in turn has a red boot. Body contours are excellent and the paintwork is quite presentable, while the brightwork shows just a few surface scratches.

Equipped with power steering, power brakes, windshield washers, seat belts and an AM radio, it has an optional front seat with fold-down armrest. The recipient of a full mechanical and cosmetic restoration about a decade ago, it still looks fresh and presents very well. Nothing could be finer than a summer evening in a Red Dodge Polara convertible.
