Seldom remembered as an automotive wagonmaster, Buick offered station wagons from 1940, and earned the distinction of building the last wood-bodied American wagons in 1953. Most of them were, like this car, upmarket woodies in the Super series. The bodies were sourced from Ionia Manufacturing Company in Ionia, Michigan.

This 1949 Buick Super Estate Wagon has been sympathetically restored to excellent condition. The wood appears all original, showing some cracks and discoloration from age, but carefully conditioned and splendidly varnished. This is the preferred method of preservation for those who love woodies and value their originality. The metallic green paint and chrome brightwork are similarly excellent.

The seats are upholstered in crimson leather, all in excellent condition, and match the red carpet. The roof has a blue vinyl headliner with varnished wood bows. Accessories include a Sonomatic radio with header antenna, and an under-seat heater, a Buick hallmark that delivered even temperature throughout the interior. The engine compartment is nicely detailed, and the undercarriage is clean and serviceable. The epitome of a luxury station wagon, this Buick Super is one of just 1,830 built in 1949.
