The Ferrari 166 MM was designed in 1948 for long-distance competition, and it took its name from one of the world’s most famous road races, the Mille Miglia. The Maranello-bred machines would continue to triumph there many times after its introduction. The coachwork was built by Carrozzeria Touring, who used their patented Superleggera method, which made the car both extremely light and very dynamic, yet it also maintained its great structural rigidity.

The wireframe sculpture presented here is believed to have been built by Mr Giancarlo Guerra possibly more than 40 years ago. Guerra was originally involved with the Ferrari 250 GTO prototype whilst working at the Scaglietti workshops, where he was employed for many years.

This sculpture was recently displayed at the Casa Natale Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena, and it would make for a welcome and unique addition to any serious Ferrari collection.

La Ferrari 166 MM a été conçue en 1948 pour les courses d'endurance, tirant son nom d'une des épreuves sur route les plus célèbres du monde, les Mille Miglia. Les machines de Maranello ont continué à y triompher plusieurs fois après sa présentation. La carrosserie de cette voiture était fabriquée par la Carrozzeria Touring, qui utilisait sa méthode brevetée Superleggera, ce qui permettait à la voiture d'être à la fois extrêmement légère et très dynamique, tout en offrant une grande rigidité structurelle.

La sculpture en tubes d'acier présentée ici aurait été fabriquée par M. Giancarlo Guerra, il y a peut-être 40 ans. Guerra a collaboré à la réalisation du prototype de Ferrari GTO, alors qu'il travaillait dans les ateliers Scaglietti, où il a été employé pendant plusieurs années.

Récemment exposée au Casa Natale Enzo Ferrari Museum, à Modène, cette sculpture constituera un complément original et unique à toute collection de Ferrari.
