  • Older restoration, ideal for driving enjoyment
  • Elegant and iconic color scheme
  • One of the most significant Ford model years

As automobile production resumed after World War II, offerings were generally limited to existing prewar designs, but by 1949, the Big Three had fresh, innovative concepts on sale. Ford was first, showing all-new 1949 models on 8 June 1948. They were as un-Ford-like as anything the public had ever seen. Slab-sided and streamlined, the company proudly announced that the New York Fashion Academy had judged Ford the “Fashion Car of the Year.” Today the 1949 Ford is widely and justifiably credited as a clean, crisp American design classic, and one of the most famous U.S. automobiles ever produced.

The Custom Convertible offered here has been part of the Mitosinka Collection since 1987, when it was acquired from Val Johnson of Anaheim, California, who is believed to be the original owner. Many years ago it was the recipient of a cosmetic restoration in Raven Black with brown leather upholstery and tan canvas top. Accessories include an AM radio and overdrive, turn signals, chrome full wheel covers, and wide whitewall tires. Inspection of the car shows the paint exhibits extensive cracking around the usual stress areas and is older overall, while the top and interior remain in good overall condition with minor signs of age. Under the hood and underneath the car, all appears very original and largely untouched, including what appears to be early or original undercoating, and correct Ford hoses and air cleaner. A correct gas tank was installed in 2014. The trunk floor is still solid, indicative of an overall well-preserved life. A full-size spare is tucked into the trunk itself.

Offered with a file of various maintenance receipts, this is an iconic old ’49 Ford, deserving of a good home and destined for many miles on American roads.
