Please note that this lot will need to be collected from Tilburg, Netherlands.

Despite being in its relative infancy, Chrysler quickly realized that the crucible of motorsport provided both an excellent testing ground and marketing arena for their cars. Sending a Model 70 to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1925, the company sought to take the fight to the European establishment and proved to be competitive. Running as high as seventh in distance, they failed to classify after Henri Stoffel put the car in a ditch whilst passing another car with just two laps to go.

Three years later, Chrysler sent a Model 72 to compete at Le Mans in 1928, finishing third and fourth overall, even beating the Bentley 4½-litre of Birkin and Chassagne. That year’s Mille Miglia proved similarly fruitful for the Model 72, seeing two cars finishing second and third in class respectively. Proven to be highly competitive in period, it is no surprise that these Chryslers are excellent entries in vintage racing, as this example has so proven.

Finished in attractive green paintwork with a red interior, it has been restored with historic racing and rallying in mind. With the consignor, the car completed the Flying Scotsman rally in 2019 and would surely be a wonderful entrant for other vintage rallies, including the Mille Miglia. Its history file includes a FIVA identity card issued in 2019, an Eligibility Document issued by the Vintage Sports-Car Club in January of 2011, a certificate from the Registro Mille Miglia listing this car as eligible to the iconic event, a Chrysler 72 owner’s manual, as well as copies of its previous Italian registration.
