This 1991 BMW 850i represents the cutting edge of technology at the time of production. Under its finely sculpted hood is an aluminum-block 5.0-liter, 296-hp V-12 engine that features the first drive-by-wire throttle system ever used in a production vehicle. This is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. An active five-link rear suspension and electronic stability control (also one of the industry’s first) keep the 850i in control at the limit. The interior offers a wide array of amenities that includes a radio, power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes and power windows. This is a hard-to-find and rare model that is arguably one of the best looking German cars of the last 50 years.

Bavarian Motor Works built the 850i as a grand touring coupe from 1989 to 1999. Sales of the 8 Series were affected by the global recession of the early 1990s, the Persian Gulf War, and energy price spikes causing BMW to pull the plug in the North American market in 1997 after selling only 7,232 cars over seven years. BMW continued production for Europe until 1999. The ultimate worldwide production total was 31,062.

This particular example is smartly finished in red with black leather interior and the 25,510 miles showing on the odometer are reported as actual. The BMW is offered in excellent condition with its factory alloy wheels, phone and assorted books. The 850i represents the pursuit of automotive perfection and is reflected in every detail.
