Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1998, the E39-generation BMW M5 offered a 394 bhp V-8 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission, yet without losing any of the practicality of the 5 Series sedan it was based on. The M5 could sprint to 100 km/h from a standstill in less than five seconds and would race onwards to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Derestricted, the M5 could reach an astonishing 300 km/h. Production began in late October of 1998 and continued through 2003.

Finished in Imola Red II over full Black Nappa leather, this example was delivered new to Japan and resided there until 2016, when it was purchased and imported to Switzerland by the consignor. Considered by many to be the quintessential M5, to the casual passerby, an E39 M5 is no more outlandish than a regular 5 Series sedan of the same generation, and is the perfect gentleman’s hot rod, just as practical as it is exciting to drive. This example presents very well and will surely please its next owner.

Die Generation E39 des BMW M5 wurde 1998 auf dem Genfer Automobilsalon vorgestellt. Ihr 400 PS V8 wurde mit einem Sechsgang-Handschaltgetriebe gekoppelt, ohne dabei im Umgang weniger praktisch zu sein als der 5er BMW, auf dem dieses Modell basierte. Der M5 konnte in weniger als fünf Sekunden von 0 and 100 km/h sprinten bis auf eine elektronisch abgeregelte Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 250 km/h. Ohne diese Abregelung konnte der M5 erstaunliche 300 km/h erzielen. Die Produktion begann Ende 1998 und dauerte bis 2003.

Dieser in imolarot II ausgeführte M5 verfügt über Ledersitze in Nappaleder schwarz. Dieses Exemplar wurde neu in Japan ausgeliefert und kam 2016 in die Schweiz, nachdem es vom derzeitigen Besitzer erworben wurde. Für viele der M5 schlechthin, ist der M5 der Generation E39 optisch kaum weniger auffällig als die 5er-Reihe, auf der er basiert. Ein perfekter „Gentleman’s Hot Rod“, der genauso praktisch ist wie aufregend. Dieses Exemplar steht sehr gut da und wird seinem nächsten Besitzer sicher große Freude machen.
