As handsome as the V8 Vantage was in appearance, it was the model’s swan song that cemented its legacy with the debut of the uprated V580X, or “X-Pack,” engine in 1986. Equipped with four dual-barrel Weber carburetors, high-compression Cosworth pistons, and larger valves and intake manifold, this high-performance engine produced an impressive 432 horsepower from its 5.3 liters. Described by many as a spiritual successor to the brutish American pony cars of a decade prior, the new and improved V8 Vantage was a genuine 200-mph supercar.

As recorded on the accompanying factory order forms, this V8 Vantage was tailor-made in 1984 to the tastes of noted Aston Martin enthusiast and self-described “faithful marque fanatic” Hubert Fabri of Luxembourg. Reams of factory documentation follow Fabri’s process in tailoring the car to his exact specifications, including a Nakamichi radio cassette stereo system, Cobra burglar alarm system, custom child’s seat trimmed in matching natural leather, electric sliding sunroof, front fog lamps, fitted luggage, a glove box in place of the ashtray, and a custom-designed refreshment bar with leather-wrapped bottles in place of the rear armrest.

Upon hearing of Aston’s newest variant, Fabri wrote to Aston Martin requesting his V8 Vantage be updated to X-Pack specification when he returned to the factory for the car’s next service. His request was granted, and the car was updated with all the necessary X-Pack performance touches in March 1986. Accompanying the sale are extensive correspondence between Fabri and Aston Martin executives, beginning shortly after Fabri’s private tour of the Newport Pagnell factory in 1984 and continuing through his ordering process, collection of the car, and updating to X-Pack specification.

With its hood scoop, air dam, and distinctive V8 rumble, it is difficult not to draw comparisons between America’s beloved muscle cars and the V8 Vantage. The Dare to Dream Collection’s example, tailored to the specifications of one of the marque’s most beloved customers, and featuring unquestionable documentation and provenance, is certain to prove a treasured addition to collections of all tastes.
