The Ford Model A replaced the wildly successful Model T for the 1928 model year with production lasting until 1931. A far more complex vehicle than its predecessor, it debuted many significant improvements. For one, its L-head inline four-cylinder engine gained more displacement and produced a claimed 40 horsepower—twice that of the Model T. Fuel was gravity fed to the carburetor from a tank positioned in the cowl, between the engine compartment and the dashboard, which featured a visual fuel gauge. Other new features included four-wheel mechanical brakes, a battery-powered ignition system, and safety glass for the windshield, an industry first. Significantly, the Model A was also the first Ford to adopt a standard set of driver controls, with conventional clutch, throttle, and brake pedals and a gear shifter like on vehicles from other manufacturers of the day...

Ford offered a wide variety of consumer and commercial body styles for the Model A with the roadster body seen on the car offered here remaining particularly popular among collectors. Restored in the 1990s and subsequently stored in a climate-controlled facility for the next three decades, this example features an attractive burgundy and black exterior with orange wheels and pinstriping for a pleasing contrast. A tan canvas top and a cognac leather interior complete the attractive finish.

This roadster further features a number of wonderful period touches, including a wood-trimmed trunk rack, cowl lights, a mesh radiator stone guard, a flying goose radiator mascot, adjustable side windscreens, and whitewall tires. In preparation for the sale, the owner has had the vehicle inspected to resolve any apparent issues and improve functionality. The carburetor was rebuilt and the car was detailed inside and out after receiving a new battery and fresh fluids. An invoice for the work is included.

Simple, user-friendly, and downright fun, the Ford Model A is ideal as a first foray into pre-war cars or as part of a larger collection documenting significant automobiles of the period. This restored example is ready to make new memories and spread joy with friends and family onboard as it motors down the open road.
