Introduced in 1959, the British Motor Company launched the Austin-Healey 3000, which would quickly become the marque’s defining model. Equipped with a 2,912 cc engine rated at 124 horsepower, it was the most powerful “Big Healey.”

According to its British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, chassis 2951, a left-hand-drive North American Export example, was completed between 21 and 22 July 1959. Soon thereafter, the 3000 was dispatched on 30 July, whereupon it was handled by the Hambro Automotive Corporation, Austin-Healey’s East Coast importer. It was delivered soundly to its first owner, a gentleman of Fort Worth, Texas. Later in 1963 the car was acquired by another Texas owner with whom it remained until 2011.

The Austin-Healey was subsequently sold to renowned marque expert and restorer Kurt Tanner. Over the course of the following year, Tanner restored the car to its gleaming factory condition. Tanner Restorations of Southern California are nationally recognized for their work with Austin-Healeys, becoming a near household name with the marque. Upon its completion, Tanner sold the car to a California collector. Four years later it exchanged hands once more when it was acquired by the current owner.

Finished in its original factory colors of black over red with a black top, this Mark I BT7 presents the exciting opportunity to acquire a near pristine example. Not only does the 3000 feature its matching-numbers engine, it is accompanied with its owner’s manual, workshop manual, new side curtains, and a knockoff hammer. Furthermore, the owner notes that the battery and fluids have recently been replaced and a new set of tires installed.

A simply wonderful Austin-Healey, especially in one of its most desirable iterations, this 3000 would be a thrilling acquisition to drive and enjoy.
