In 1929, Hispano-Suiza took over Établissements Ballot SA, the company founded by Ernest Ballot, in Paris in 1906. Initially a manufacturer of marine engines, Ballot fielded racing cars with engines designed by the famed Ernest Henry and campaigned them at Indianapolis in 1919 and the French Grands Prix in 1920 and 1921. Road-going cars were built from 1921 but by the late-1920s, sales had declined. After the Hispano takeover, a new model, the HS-26, was introduced, using the chassis of the Ballot RH3 with a Spanish-built Hispano T.64 engine. With an overhead-cam six of 4,580 cc, it developed 95 bhp. Sometimes called the Ballot HS26, the car was later renamed Hispano-Suiza Junior. Just 126 were built from 1930 to 1933.

Delivered new to a Mr Clarius, of Marseilles, this HS26 Hispano-Suiza took part in a concours d’elegance on the French Riviera. In the Aalholm collection for decades, it bears a desirable cabriolet body, and it exhibits an accustomed flair with a bright flash of trim paralleling the beltline contour.

It is an older restoration, and it shows its age. Important details are all good, including the stork mascot, body contours and the condition of the body framing. It is equipped with the desirable three-position hood with intact landau irons. The only significant detour from originality involves the fitting of an incorrect carburettor and fuel pump. Although the car will need a significant amount of work, it warrants a concours-quality restoration.

Den er udstyret med den attraktive treprositionsmotorhjelm med intakte jernhåndtag. Den eneste betydelige afvigelse fra originalen er isætningen af en ukorrekt karburator og benzinpunpe. Selvom bilen vil kræve en betydelig arbejdsindsats, retfærdiggør den en istandsættelse af concours-kvalitet.
