Jeff Gordon’s iconic No. 24 DuPont Rainbow livery is the winningest paint scheme in NASCAR history, with 52 wins at 17 different tracks, three championship titles, and over 10,000 laps led. This Lumina-body chassis offered here, 2409 (Hendrick name “Booker”), is among the first race-used chassis developed by Hendrick Motorsports for use by Jeff Gordon during his rookie season. According to documentation and testimony submitted by NASCAR Hall of Fame member and 1994 season crew chief Ray Evernham, “Booker” was constructed immediately prior to the beginning of the season and configured specifically for the Daytona and Talladega circuits.

In the season-opening Daytona 500 on 20 February, Booker carried Gordon from a 6th place starting position to a podium-adjacent 4th place result; this impressive finish was still good for nearly $113,000 in prize money and 165 points in the driver’s championship standings. Booker ran at least three more times with Gordon in official competition that season, not including testing or qualifying sessions; 2 May at Talladega, 3 July at Daytona, and 25 July at Talladega.

During the last race at Talladega, the engine blew and Booker was later laid up by Hendrick for the remainder of the season.

In June 2020, the consignor purchased the chassis from the Gilmore Car Museum of Hickory Mills, Michigan and enlisted the assistance of Ray Evernham's Big Iron Garage in authenticating the chassis’ and sourcing (rebuilding, and installing) a period-correct Hendrick race engine. Booker is presently accompanied by handwritten race notes from Evernham’s personal collection, as well as additional documentation which illustrates this chassis’ race-used history.

A highly original and functioning Jeff Gordon #24 race chassis is certainly a rarified offering; Booker is among the best of very few example to have come to market in the past decade.
