Among the most exciting automobiles in the Burdick Collection is this extremely original Cord L-29 cabriolet, an example of the most desirable factory body style. Listed in the ACD Club’s 1999 70th Anniversary roster of known cars with Gene McKay of Spokane, Washington, it has been a long-term part of Mr. Burdick’s collection, and wears an older cosmetic restoration in two tones of caramel. Close inspection indicates that the car seems to have never received a full restoration; it retains its original structural woodwork, in good condition, and the original serial number and body tags are still in place, a reassuring confirmation of its purity. More recently the interior and top were both redone very professionally and in the original materials. The original metal trim is still in good condition, inside and out, and the car retains its original Bijur lubricating system and windshield wiper motor. An ideal basis for light freshening and tours, or the best possible beginning to a full restoration, this is an L-29 to treasure.
