Porsche launched the 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder as an hors d’oeuvre for purchasers of the 918 Spyder hypercar; an exclusive soupçon to whet the appetite for the main event; when their 918 Spyders were ready for delivery. Production was therefore limited to just 918 examples and, perhaps unsurprisingly, given how exceptional the 997.2 Turbo S was, every single expectant 918 owner elected to have one.

The car itself was mechanically identical to the 997.2 Turbo S, a machine with few if any peers when it came to being all weather, everyday proposition with the performance to put most supercars in the shade, boasting a 0-60 time of under 3 seconds, and a top speed nudging 200 mph.

Aesthetically though, the Edition 918 Spyders are easy to differentiate due to the sprinkling of highlights on the exterior, where the brake callipers, wing mirror accents and “S” badge on the engine cover are all acid green and allude to a special pedigree. This is carried into the cabin as well, where the tacho needles, seat stitching, sport chrono clock and special edition numbered build plaque are unlike those you will find on any other 911. The package is complimented by special carbon fibre door sills, mirrors and air intakes.

This particular cabriolet example is specified with Basalt Black paintwork with matching Black Edition 918 Spyder leather interior. It was delivered to its first and only owner in September 2012 by Porsche Sweden and has covered just over 30,000 kilometers since. Paperwork with the car shows that it had its most recent service in 2017, having covered 25,277 kilometers. The service was carried out at Porsche Centre Väst and it was inspected thoroughly by Porsche Classic Centre Gelderland in May 2021, which uncovered only minor items that a new owner might want to rectify to bring it back to its best.

Porsche 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder remains a very exclusive, very fast but very usable 911 and a tribute a car that has become a true automotive milestone.
