A Porsche enthusiast will know exactly what they are looking at when they see this 1971 911 E 2.2 Targa: The “E” in the 911 E’s model name denotes a Bosch mechanical fuel injection system (Einspritzung being German for “injection”), while the removable targa top provides an open-air driving experience without sacrificing the 911’s timeless profile. But while the virtues and collectability of the classic 911 are well known, this example also offers qualities that place in more exclusive company: The instantly recognizable appeal and undeniable presence of a well-preserved, highly original car.

Chassis number 9111210785 was, per Porsche records, completed in May 1971. Delivered new to Montreal, the car remained in possession of its original owner until 2016. Under his care, it was enjoyed and driven—but always, as extensive service records detail, scrupulously maintained. Finished in Albert Blue with a Black leatherette interior, the car presents beautifully inside and out; both paint and interior are believed to be original.

The car’s 2.2-liter naturally aspirated horizontally opposed six-cylinder bears the engine number 6211494. Thanks in part to the aforementioned fuel injection system, first deployed on certain 911 variants in 1969, it achieves a stated 155 hp at 6,200 rpm and 141 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. It is paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, gearbox number 7119341. Per the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, both engine and gearbox are original to the car.

This 1971 911 E 2.2 Targa is offered by its third owner. It comes complete with extensive documentation—including a maintenance journal kept by its first, long-term owner —detailing its entire life so far, including records of major service work completed in 2016. The paperwork only serves to confirm what the car itself makes clear: This is a well-loved, highly original 911 that is sure to captivate dedicated Porsche preservationists and casual onlookers alike.
