Media Buyer/Planner
Marketing Coordinator

Job Title: Media Buyer/Planner
Department: Marketing

Reports To: Chief Marketing Officer


Position Purpose:
The Media Buyer/Planner is responsible for the development and execution of digital and traditional media objectives, strategies, plans, and tactics for RM Sotheby’s. This individual is the primary point of contact between vendors and our strategy implementation team members. You will be responsible for negotiating, buying, and maintaining media schedules, ensuring that final buys deliver on the approved plan objective and strategy, provide recommendations on how competitive activities can be exploited to our advantage, and be responsible for ad sales for our corporate magazine.


Primary (day-to-day) Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of paid and match inventory
  • Effectively use relationship media tools to aid in plan development
  • Assist in developing plan metrics; responsible for analyses and related reports pertaining to KPI
  • Prepare, check, verify, and issue analyses, including ongoing maintenance
  • Oversee the resolution of billing discrepancies
  • Learn to manage and build client relationships (when at Senior level)
  • Analyze media alternatives to recommend how to best allocate the advertising budget
  • Manage day-to-day plan changes/maintenance of media plans
  • Facilitate competitive analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Develop points of view on media opportunities
  • Play a key role in the budget and billing process to ensure accuracy
  • Write and maintain status and contact reports to ensure efficient workflow to meet deadlines


Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Compile and analyze marketing and media data to support implementation decisions
  • Search for unique sources of information to support non-traditional recommendations



  • Minimum 5 years as a Planning and/or Buying Assistant



  • Demonstrates understanding of media basics and concepts
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of syndicated tools (Cision, Evaliant, Xpert, Comscore, PMB, etc.)
  • Possess a desire to understand the broader media landscape and its impact on campaigns and strategies


Desired Qualities:

  • Digitally savvy: personally uses digital and social media; demonstrates passion for emerging media; possesses knowledge of Google Analytics and Google Images; and has the ability to search and research specific topics
  • Interest in video disciplines (traditional, online, digital, etc.)
  • Interest in the automotive collecting hobby

Job Title: Marketing Coordinator
Department: Marketing

Position Purpose:
The marketing coordinator will assist the marketing team with the day-to-day execution and implementation of the marketing plan’s action items while upholding the integrity of the brand guidelines of the RM Group of Companies.

Primary (day-to-day) Responsibilities:

  • Undertake daily administrative tasks to ensure the functionality and coordination of the department’s activities
  • Support marketing executives in organizing and occasionally implementing various projects
  • Coordinate multiple projects between the Marketing and Creative departments
  • Employ marketing analytics techniques to gather important data (social media, web analytics, rankings, etc.) for marketing executives
  • Update the marketing activities project list on a regular basis (includes docket creation and maintenance in CRM)
  • Create and track marketing activities in CRM
  • Collate and compile database of advertising and marketing contacts
  • Liaise between other departments and report on projects required
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Marketing


  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in marketing or advertising
  • 1-3 years of marketing or advertising experience

  • Knowledge:

    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and take on additional last-minute projects as needed
    • Must be accurate, organized, detail-oriented, and thorough in all areas of work
    • Demonstrate knowledge of/experience with key marketing mix channels, including advertising, online marketing, email marketing, direct mail, social media, and event promotions
    • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to operate in a fast-paced organization 
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs
    • Must be bondable and authorized to work in Canada
    • Automotive interest is a plus
